No — if you are paying for your own treatment, you can book an appointment with Urology Partners directly, without a GP referral. If you are using private medical insurance, most insurers require a GP referral and an authorisation code before your first appointment, and you should check that your chosen consultant is on your policy’s approved list. Some insurers offer their own referral service and can book the appointment with your chosen consultant for you.

Most patients are offered an appointment within 3 working days. Our nine consultants hold clinics every weekday, and some Saturdays, across private hospitals in London, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, and same-week appointments are usually available. All patients can book directly online or by contacting the relevant consultant’s secretary; insured patients should have their GP referral and insurer membership details and authorisation code ready. If you would like to be seen before your GP’s referral letter arrives, contact us and we will arrange the appointment in parallel.

All of our Urology Partners consultants are GMC-registered consultant urological surgeons, each sub-specialising in different areas of urology — prostate, kidney, bladder and both women and men’s health. The quickest route is the "Find by specialism" tool on our team page: choose your condition or concern and it shows the consultants who specialise in it. Each consultant’s profile lists their specialisms, the hospitals they practise at, and their verified Doctify patient rating. Alternatively, your GP or your insurer’s referral service can recommend the most appropriate consultant for your condition.

Book online through our appointment system, or contact the consultant’s secretary directly — phone and email details are on each consultant’s profile page and on our Contact page. If you are using private medical insurance, you will need a GP referral letter and should confirm with your insurer that the consultant is covered under your policy.

Yes. Urology Partners provides cover 365 days a year through our consultants, urology practice nurses and secretarial team, so urgent concerns can always be raised — including weekends and public holidays.

Contact your consultant’s secretary as soon as possible and we will rearrange your appointment at no charge, provided we have at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice, and missed appointments, may be charged. If you arrive late, your appointment may need to be rescheduled for later that day or another day.

An initial consultation with a Urology Partners consultant costs from £275, with follow-up consultations from £195. Any diagnostic tests — such as blood tests (including PSA), ultrasound, X-ray or MRI — are charged separately by the hospital. If you go on to have a procedure, most hospitals offer a fixed self-pay package covering the hospital, consultant and anaesthetist fees in a single price, and many offer finance options.

Yes. Urology Partners welcomes self-paying patients as well as those with private medical insurance - no insurance is required, and self-paying patients do not need a GP referral. Self-funded consultations are paid in advance of your appointment and an invoice is sent 48 hours before your appointment. Diagnostic tests are charged separately by the hospital, and for procedures most hospitals will prepare a fixed self-pay quote covering hospital, consultant and anaesthetist fees, often with finance available. Our team can provide you with guide prices for procedures before a formal quote is provided.

Our consultants are recognised by all major UK private medical insurers, including BUPA, AXA Health (formerly AXA PPP), Aviva, VitalityHealth, WPA, Simply Health, Cigna, The Exeter and Benenden. Before your first appointment, check that your chosen consultant is on your policy’s provider list and obtain an authorisation code from your insurer. A separate authorisation code is needed for each subsequent procedure or investigation your insurer requires.For some insurance companies not listed above, you can still user your medical insurance but we may need to invoice you first and then you will need to claim the fee back from your medical insurance provider.

Ask your GP to refer you to Urology Partners, and contact your insurer for an authorisation code - you will need your membership number to hand. Once we receive the referral, one of our secretaries will contact you to book the appointment. Howeverif you would like to be seen sooner, you can contact us before the GP letter arrives. Some insurers operate their own referral service and can book directly with the consultant for you, and you can also be referred to one of our consultants directly through the hospital.

Arrive around 15 minutes early, as the hospital reception team may ask you to complete registration details before directing you to the waiting area, where your consultant or a urology practice nurse will collect you. Bring any previous scans, X-rays or letters from your GP or specialists relating to your condition - you can also upload these to your secure patient portal, which you will receive access to when you book.

If further investigations are needed - MRI, ultrasound, X-ray or blood tests - these will be arranged after your appointment. At some hospitals they can be done the same day; otherwise the relevant department will contact you directly to book. After the consultation, your consultant writes to your GP and any other clinicians continuing your care, summarising the consultation and planned investigations, and you receive a copy. We handle the paperwork throughout - GP correspondence, hospital arrangements if surgery is needed, and insurance claims.

Your consultant’s secretary will contact you to arrange the follow-up appointment. At it, your consultant will go through the results of your consultation and any diagnostic investigations, and recommend the most appropriate next step - which may be treatment, a further period of monitoring, referral to another specialist, or discharge. If surgery is recommended, the consultant will explain the whole procedure and what to expect afterwards before anything is booked.

We arrange everything for you. All our consultants operate at the hospital where you had your consultation, so your care stays in one place. Your consultant’s secretary books the surgery, and the hospital confirms the booking with instructions on when to stop eating and drinking and when to arrive. Before any operation you will have a pre-assessment, which the nursing team will contact you directly to book at your convenience.

If you are insured, these hospitals are covered by all the major insurers, but always confirm with your insurer that your specific operation, hospital and fees are covered - we will help with any information you need. If you are self-paying, we obtain a fixed quote from the hospital and send it to you directly, so you can decide how to proceed before committing.

All the hospitals we practise at offer wheelchair access, and interpreters can be arranged. Most have drop-off access directly outside the entrance. Tell us about any specific needs when you book and our secretarial team will make all the arrangements for your visit.

Yes, at selected locations. We see children at the Parkside Suite, Frimley and at New Victoria Hospital, Kingston, as most other private hospitals no longer offer paediatric services. For children under three, a paediatric nurse is present in the consultation; for children aged three to eighteen, a paediatric nurse is on site and will join the consultation on request. Any child admitted for an operation is cared for by a paediatric nurse throughout their stay.

Urology Partners offers six minimally invasive treatment options for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): Rezum water vapour therapy, Aquablation robotic waterjet therapy, GreenLight laser (PVP), iTIND, UroLift, and medication. Our consultants have pioneered several of these in the UK - introducing GreenLight laser (2002), UroLift (2014) and Aquablation (2019) to the NHS – Mr Neil Barber is the most experienced Aquablation surgeon outside of the USA and has performed over 1000 cases - and Mr Richard Hindley performed the UK’s first Rezum procedure, with more than 900 cases completed since its NICE approval in August 2018. Most of these treatments are performed as day cases with a rapid return to normal activity. The right option depends on your prostate size and anatomy, your symptoms, and your priorities - including preservation of sexual function - and your consultant will discuss the choice with you at consultation.

Rezum is a minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate (BPH) that uses water vapour to shrink excess prostate tissue, relieving urinary symptoms without major surgery. It is typically performed as a day case, with the procedure taking around 20-30 minutes, and has been approved by NICE since August 2018. In the UK, Rezum typically costs £5500-7500 as a self-pay package, including hospital, consultant and anaesthetist fees. The price is dependent on the hospital you are treated in. Our consultant fees for a procedure remain the same wherever you are treated, Mr Richard Hindley of Urology Partners performed the first Rezum procedure in the UK and has completed more than 900 cases.

Aquablaton is a game changing treatment for an enlarged prostate (BPH). Aquablation uses a robotically controlled waterjet to remove prostate tissue without the application of heat.Using real time image based guidance, it enables a controlled resection of the prostate with careful planning and mapping. The reduced side effects and impact on sexual dysfunction, combined with a speedy recovery have all been covered in medical studies. Neil Barber was pioneering in bringing this treatment to the UK and has now performed over 1000 cases. In the UK, Aquablation typically costs between £10000-12500 as a self-pay package, including hospital, consultant and anaesthetist fees.

Diagnosis usually begins with a PSA blood testand a multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) scan of the prostate, which allows many men to avoid an unnecessary biopsy. Where a biopsy is indicated, our consultants use precision template (transperineal) fusion biopsies, targeted using the MRI findings. Urology Partners’ Mr Simon Bott led the UK’s first use of AI-assisted prostate biopsy interpretation in June 2025. If cancer is found, treatment options range from active surveillance through to radical prostatectomy, brachytherapy, HIFU, cryotherapy and radiotherapy, depending on the stage and grade of the disease - your consultant will discuss which are appropriate for you.

Treatment depends on the size, position and symptoms of the stone. Small stones can often be managed without surgery, using pain relief and medication to help the stone pass naturally, with follow-up imaging to confirm it has cleared. Larger or symptomatic stones are treated surgically - options include shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), which breaks up the stone from outside the body, and ureteroscopy which involves a procedure to remove the stones with laser fragmentation. Your consultant will recommend the most appropriate approach and will also advise on preventing future stones.
