MRI Scan (3T Multiparametric)

Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer using an mpMRI scan.

The use of mpMRI scans for Prostate Cancer has been a significant development in diagnosing prostate more accurately and in addition allowing any positive diagnosis to be followed up with focal biopises that target the specific area. Richard Hindley explains more

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a type of scan that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.

An MRI scanner is a large tube that contains powerful magnets. You lie inside the tube during the scan which can take from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the amount of scanning required. Urology Partners recommend 3T MRI scans to be carried out at Mobile Health, located either in London or Weybridge. These are the best available scanners and just as importantly the pictures are looked at by an experienced prostate MRI radiologist (Dr Hywel Evans, Dr Alex Kirkham, Dr Claire Allen). In addition MRI scans can also be carried out at both Frimley Park and Basingstoke Hospitals.
